The School of Banking and Finance at the Australian School of Business is pleased to announce that Professor Ron Masulis, the Frank Houston Professor of Finance and Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University, will be joining Banking and Finance at the Australian School of Business in 2010 as a full professor of finance.
Professor Masulis is one of the foremost authorities in the field of empirical Corporate Finance, and an expert on corporate governance issues. Some of the specific areas in which he has worked include investment banking, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, international finance and law and finance. His current research includes analysis of CEO employment contracts in Australia and the US and how corporations influence government decision making.
He has 30 papers published or forthcoming in academic journals in the areas of finance, economics, accounting, law and statistics, including 22 publications in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, which are generally recognized as the top four journals in finance. In recent years Professor Masulis has been a frequent distinguished visitor to the school and has established close professional ties with a number of the School’s current faculty. He is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Pacific Basin Finance Journal and is a past associate editor of all four top finance journals. He has won the Journal of Financial Economics All Star Award for high impact research for five articles that continue to be heavily cited by other researchers. He has recently been appointed a Research Associate at the European Corporate Governance Institute. He has also previously been elected to the Board of Directors/Executive Committee of the American Finance Association, the Western Finance Association and the Financial Management Association.
